The Gerber Dime has been a swap for a heavier Gerber multitool that I’ve used for decades. Though the Dime has been a more recent addition to my pack, at 2.2 oz this small tool balances my desire to lighten my pack while retaining the usefulness of having tools beyond just a blade.

The Dime has the main functions that I look for in a tool: a blade that works well for cutting cheese for lunch, a pliers for fixing zippers and other light repairs, a scissors for small trims, a screwdriver for tightening trekking poles, a small file for hangnails, and a tweezers for ticks and splinters. I don’t find myself opening too many bottles on trail, but it has one of those to save the party on resupply days in town if needed. Though it is certainly only for light duty, I have found it to be sufficiently durable and has held up well for what I need it to do on trail.
