I’m considering this. Originally I was going to go with the Inreach mini but now weight isn’t as big of a consideration. I like the thought of a bigger screen and the included Topo maps. I’d be using this mainly as peace of mind for my wife when I’m out there. This seems like a nice middle of the road option except the battery is only 16hrs. Might be a stupid question but can you recharge the lithium’s while in the device by connection to a charging pack? Anyone else have experience with this model? Thanks

If peace of mind for family is a consideration, and you were going to buy a satellite communicator (Mini), why not get one of the Garmin satellite communication gps units like the Explorer+ (has topo maps) or the newer 66i (better screen than the Explorer+). Both of those can be recharged via a micro USB cable.
What Philip said ^. As far as GPS units go, I’ve been using the 64st for years and it’s a dependable unit. I use Eneloop Pro rechargeable batteries which I can recharge with my solar unit. I’ve been using an older model InReach for years as well for checking in and two-way communication. It does not have maps, so I carry the GPS as well. Using the two units works well for me. For day hikes I also have an unlocked iPhone 6S on which I run GAIA for backup. I can recharge my iPhone and my InReach with my Anker powerbank.
