Since there have been quite a few posts lately on winter gear, I thought I’d share this short video that pretty well matches the type of gear I take. I don’t do trips as remote as this guy does, and I watch the forecasts pretty closely so I’m not likely to encounter the weather featured in the video. Still, I’ve snowshoed out on a warm (15 F) day and returned with 30mph wind blowing in my face, so no matter what, I do not pack light in winter. I usually use a sled, so although I don’t throw in a lot of luxuries, I also don’t worry about weight too much. I have slept in tents, cabins, and quinzhees, but never in the open in winter.
I laugh at the folks who say they wear trail runners in these conditions. I like all of my toes!
