Looking to save weight and add a little more protein on trail, I’ve tried several freeze dried dog foods. Found this at Costco. 27 oz for $19. 60% protein. In a blind test, preferred over Stella and Chewys and a few other brands 2 to 0. Too rich for a main diet. A good price. Makes a great topper. The dogs have never behaved so well, waiting for their next treat. Highly recommend.

Day hikes and backpacking trips 1 week or less.  All 4 seasons.  Montana mountains.

Very light, lots of protein. My dog gets the runs if her food is too high in fat, but not if it is high in protien, so this is a good way to give her more calories.  It is crumbly so if you want solid chunks instead of crumbs, pack it accordingly.  It is much lighter than jerky, but also bulkier.

Will add that variations on this product have been incredible training treats as well as supplements/trail treats for my GSP. He’s most preferable to the salmon version of the ones Costco routinely offers (not that he’s being picky.) We’ve been using these for several years and definitely recommend. The absolute only downside we’ve found is that the edges crumble easily into a finer powder.
