I am under the impression Fresnel is pronounced fruh-nel. Not frez-nel.

Any opinions?

Well, I once heard about someone visiting Hawaii and was confused about the various pronunciations (Hawaii) that he heard.  He finally asked an older local and was told it was pronounced  “Ha-Vye-E”.   He then thanked the man profusely, who then replied “You’re  Velcome”!

In college I was taught to say FERN-zuhl.  Some websites say fray-NEL.

I’m making a couple of packs for my buddy’s son and daughter, and if you’re willing to ship a couple, I’d love to include them in the pack so they can set fires in their backyard – it’ll be great fun. I believe you have my address.

It’s the name of the French engineer who invented them. The s is definitely silent. “Fray-nell” is one acceptable pronunciation.
