Found another military fleece bargain

The military R1/Power Dry fleece tops and bottoms are a great buy and I found another good military fleece item that is great for outdoor use: the Navy Working Uniform Type II/II fleece parka liner. It is made for use with the Navy Gore-Tex parka and is much like The North Face Denali fleece. It has reinforced shoulder and upper torso and lower sleeves, pit zips, mesh inside pockets and a hem drawstring. I would rate the fleece as 200w and a medium/long size (like a civilian large) weighs 22.4 ounces.

Dale can you recommend a good place to buy these surplus type items? are you getting them online or at a local shop?

eBay is a good source and there are online companies thar speicialize in military gear like this. If you live near a large base there are usually stores that sell the same gear.

I found this one in a thrift store. BDU camo uniforms are common, but high tech goodies this and the Power Dry items are fairly rare.

There are companies like Rothko that make cheap knock offs. Look for the lables that list US contractors and Polartec labels. Patagonia, Arcteryx and Wild Things have produced some items of interest to UL hikers, but quite rare and usually expensive. Peckham is a good brand.

Another military fleece buy is a USMC 1/2 zip pullover with a kangaroo pocket. 11.8oz in  medium size (civilian large). This is a real Polartec version with a less dense fabric than the Navy parka liner. Peckham makes this one. I’m puzzled on the fabric weight. It seems thicker than what I would call 100w, but it is quite light and lofty and definitely not wind-blocking . To compare, a Patagonia Synchilla pullover is about 19 ounces.
