Hi folks, I’ve searched the site but couldn’t find anything on what is best in the High Uintas for food.  I know the black bears aren’t habituated like in some high traffic areas but what do most people that have hiked this area recommend?  I always have an odor proof (resistant) bag, beyond that I could plan to try and hang my food or possibly bring my Urasck.  Appreciate any thoughts.

I have always just hung in a tree when available or when above tree line off the face of a big rock.  Above tree line I don’t worry about bears just ground dwellers and usually just wedge the cord lock in a small crack or drape the cord over a rock nub to keep it out of reach.

I have seen bears in the Unitas butting has been car camping in well established campsites and never in the back country.   They are certainly there, they just don’t seem to be a big problem if you take the standard precautions.

Thanks John, from the pics I’ve seen there doesn’t look to be a ton of trees around, so I wasn’t sure how realistic it is finding one to hang in.  We’ll be looping around Kings Peak and Red Castle.
