^Yeah, me, too — bummed. I was a regular for some of their offerings. They sent this in an email announcing their exit.
“It is with a very heavy heart that we reach out today to inform you that we are closing the business.
This last year has been unbelievably hard for us to sustain, and from what we’ve heard the outdoor market as a whole has seen a rough year. Unfortunately, things piled up on us in a way that left us unable to continue operating. We’ve held on as tight as we could, and explored any options available to us, but running this business is no longer within our reach.”
Wishing them best of luck.
The supply chain is broken. And the cost for ingredients is not stopping. Everything costs so much more in the past year. Just this week I saw a Mountain House meal selling for $15.99. It cost $9.99 last year.
Had a couple of meals from them; very good stuff. I’m sad to hear of this…and it seems common, anymore. The same kind of thing happened to TrailDrops last year; I think they just couldn’t keep up with cost increases. There’s another small company – Pinnacle – that makes very good stuff, from whom I’ve had several meals lately; I hope they stay around.
And yeah, huge cost increases in the supply chain. I’ve seen that same 50% increase, if not even more.
I rep for Thrive Life (yeah, yeah say what you will but they make good products) and they have had to raise prices this year, even adjusting monthly now. It got so bad that they took meat out of the monthly packs they do – to keep the price point to around $100, because meat has gone up sharply. We also freeze-dry at home and I grow much of what we process on our farm to keep costs down. Even then everything has gone up – the chicken feed I buy for our flock has gone up by $5 a bag for 40 pound bags. The other brand went up $10 a bag. Those hens can survive on less bougie food……
