Came across these small woven fiberglass insulated tubing at my local hardware store recently. My thought, was to use this say on mug or pot handles. Any thoughts on the safety or handling of this material around food? Respiratory concerns, issues? I haven’t been able to find anything specific to woven fiberglass and food grade safety online. They weigh virtually nothing, and as I’ve never actually had an issue with Ti handles scorching me, I have however come across it being talked about from time to time. It’s more of a curiosity for me than trying to find a solution. At least for myself. Maybe for someone else. Obviously can’t melt the frays on the ends. Thoughts? Concerns?

I’ve had good luck using silicone glue/caulk over small hot spots such as handles. It’s easy and cheap and I usually have some.

I don’t know anything about that fiberglass stuff but I have used medical grade silicone tubing for that purpose,It’s pretty light and works well .

So, I know fiberglass wrap is used in the vehicle mod arena. Like wrapping motor bikes exhaust piping or anywhere on an engine to shield parts or person from excessive heat exposure.

Main question, is whether or not this would be safe or ideal around food items and routine handling. Even though not in direct contact, per se.

No doubt there are alternatives of other things that work fine, less weight or what have you. Coatings, wraps, pot lifters. More interested in any scientific feedback on this material. Could just be too far of an outlier idea?

Yeah I suppose. Teflon tape, like you’d use in a vacuum sealer, could work as well.
