i’m debating between these two bags, 30 degree version. my shoulders are 50″. the regular has 62″ and the wide has 67″.

i’ve tested out both my daughter’s bag (regular) and a wide one at FF’s shop in seattle. both felt very comfortable and i can’t say that i noted much difference. leg space, foot space both felt fine.

looks like there’s a 1.6 oz difference between the wide and regular bags.

is there an inherent advantage to either one of the bag styles, if both appear equally comfortable?

intended use would be either pacific northwest hiking or canadian rockies (if my family and i are fortunate enough to move). future use might also include some bike touring where presumably my wife and i could share a single quilt, in which case it seems the wide would be more beneficial.

has anyone else had this internal debate? thoughts? thanks

Wider is better IME, in an emergency 2 people can shiver under a regular but would be warmer in a wide due to the extra width and shared body heat. As you note above it works better for a couple as a quilt. Also a wide works much better as an overquilt if you decide to do any deep cold camping using a mummy bag as an inner.
My bag is the S2S Tr2 but it is a functional equivelent.

And of course if you have 2 wide summer quilts for the two of you, it is possible to overlay one on the other for winter warmth. We (wife & I) did that one night at -7 C, and were warm.

Cheers

It will completely depend on whether you plan to push the bag down past its comfort rating.  If so, get the wide as it will permit more effective layering.  I have the wide but sometimes think I should have gone for the regular cut simply because it takes longer for me to warm it up given the extra space.
