Feedback on MLD Duomid XL with S2S Nano Pyramid Net Bug Double Setup

So, I’m trying to find a inner tent for my newly bought MLD Duomid XL. After a ton of research, I realized that I truly need the inner tent especially with bug netting only in summer when mosquitos are bad. Beside MLD Innernet for Duomid XL, I come up with an idea of pairing the tent with S2S Nano Pyramid Net Bug Double (which only 5oz vs 14oz silnylon model). After a ton of research, seem like the structure of the S2S Nano Pyramid Net Bug Double is asymmetrical. Would this be an issue? From the dimension of the S2S Pyramid Net Bug Double, I think it would work out perfectly with some minor adjustment. 94 inch long, 66 inch wide, 51 inch height. With this, I assume we can get rid of the rod (save 0.xx oz?) and pull up the bug net a little bit since the DuomidXL usually set in the 56-60 inch range. This allows more head space and I can just tug in the excessive material of the width and use my groundsheet overlap on top? Hmm, I think it would be fine right? I mainly just going to use this shelter as a solo. I did think of the single model bug net too, but it might be too claustrophobic for me since I’m a big dude (6ft1, 225lb).

I wonder if anyone have tried to pair these up before. Any feedback would be appreciated before I pull a trigger to buy and try it out.

Any other alternative suggestion to pair with MLD Duomid XL would be great too.

Thanks in advance!

I have no experience with your exact use-case – but I have some with a Duomid XL (my brother and I used one on a trip) and I use the S2S Nano (single version) when I need bug protection. I have only used the Nano when I am in an ADK style open lean-to or a tarp versus a tent or enclosed pyramid though. Although I bring it when we use a large pyramid (Go-Lite Shangri La 5) tent just in case, but I have never actually had to use it in the pyramid. From using it in the lean-tos I imagine it would be kind of fussy.

The Nano is quite springy and needs to be secured at the corners to provide coverage and pulled up pretty high at the peak to get the mesh off your face. It is also not symmetrical – the pull up is toward the end where your head would be. I don’t recall if there are loops or other features in the Duomid XL you could secure the top of the bug net to – and I am not sure you will be able to pull the peak of the Nano high enough to get the mesh out of your face. The Nano has a pronounced catenary curve to it. Also, what I think will be a pain is – once you have the corners secured – getting in and out of the thing. Particularly at night. I use it when I have to, but it is a bit of a stretchy, clingy mess getting in and out of it.

Thanks David.

I mainly just need the netting in summer when mosquitoes are bad in the Sierras. Outside of mosquitoes season, I don’t see myself using the inner at all.

I found a video of the setup paring MLD Duomid (not the XL model) and the S2S Double bug netting. It looks very promising.

In case anyone wanna take a look at the setup.

That looks much better than I thought it would. The double version of the Nano looks much roomier than the single version – allowing enough slack that it looks like it would be much easier to get in and out of.
