Hey

Im looking for some thoughts of your favourite Pot/ cup combo in titanium. I’m going to get the PRD stove to go with them.

Looking to mainly boil water with the occasional cooking of ramen noodles.

I was interested in the Toaks 700ml 115D for the wider quicker boil, but I’m worried I’ll hate the packability of the pot paired with a Toaks 375 -450ml cup.

Thanks for any input.

The pot is the cup. No separate cup needed. I like the Evernew 900 ml but am switching to a 1.3 L so that I have one pot for the whole year for snow melting. Pack anything inside the pot to improve packability.

Many times, I agree with Atif but sometimes I want a separate pot/mug.

I have and like this set. I’d have to double check but I think both of these fit over my 95mm Toaks 550. I know the larger one does for sure and can function as a lid for packing and boiling.

I don’t think those are made any more but you can probably find them. The silicone bands are thick and wide (heavyish) and their newer versions have titanium wire handles which probably make more sense.

You mentioned faster boil times using the 115mm variant. I am not a stove wizard but I suspect the 20mm is not going to show a significant decrease in boil time or fuel consumption. Personally I would buy the diameter that packs best and/or what you enjoy using.

The 400ml short/wide cup is nice.

The MLD mug is wonderful. I really like drinking out of this one  not made any more.

I also like drinking from a Whole Foods gelato container (similar to a talenti container but lighter and heatproof in HDPE or maybe polypropylene). This slides right into my Toaks 550 and has a lid that seals well so it has cold soaking potential.

I’m happy to measure/weigh any of these if you want.

This is like confessions of a person who wants to find a cookset that works and inevitably comes to the conclusion eating snacks and having cold coffee shakes in a Gatorade bottle is easier and more palatable than bothering to cook anything. I like the idea of cooking but I keep drifting away from it.

IIRC, my typical go-to is a Toaks 550 mL cup/pot with cover. As Atif noted, it is large enough to boil water for one person (550 mL is more than 2 cups) and can also be used as a cup. I understand that wide pots boil faster, but I just don’t need the extra size for my one-person trips. Depending on conditions, I use it with a compact canister stove or caldera/kojin. I nest everything inside the cup for storage and put it in a small ditty bag. I added some photos showing the alcohol set-up because I have it handy. There’s nothing special about this set-up, not the lightest or most compact, just something I’ve settled on that works for me. Maybe it will give you some ideas.

Personally, I do bring an extra cup because I like to have oatmeal and coffee simultaneously for breakfast. I use a small round reusable food storage container from the supermarket, I think I cut off the threads. You could probably find something lighter, this was just easy to find and it’s ridiculously sturdy.

On the older set I have, the wire handle on the Toaks can prevent a tight fit when used as a lid. I took it off.

@Ryan C, consider trying one of the collapsible silicone mugs for hot drinks. Small ti mugs burn fingers and lips and they lose heat very quickly. Not the lightest, but more pleasant if you don’t plan on using the cup on the stove.

Also, check to see if you can store a fuel canister and stove in that pot. I have a couple of wide pots and can confirm they are quicker to heat (and cool down) but the tall pot format fits the rest of the kit inside more easily.

Snow peak and Evernew have a Ti cup that nests on the outside of their mug posts. Both about 400ml and doesn’t take up space in the pot for other gear. In a wider pot like an Evernew 900 or 1.3l I’ll often include a wildo fold-a-cup. If I’m carrying a better coffee set like the Aeropress then either the SnowPeak nesting 300ml insulated cup or the Aeropress Go set, but I don’t consider these UL.

I use a Wildo fold-a-cup with my Evernew 900.

The 250ml is 25g, the 600ml is 47g. They nest.

If it’s just me and moving faster I’ll take just the 250; in the Evernew pot I can do coffee and a dehydrated meal in one boil. If I’m with my partner I’ll bring the 600 for me and the 250 for her, and do two boils for food and coffee for two.

The plastic is more comfortable and quieter, less lip-burning or finger-burning, and half the weight of a titanium cup.

I have used Toaks 750 & 450ml in combo which nest nicely, as I use the 450ml for coffee in morning and hot cider with dinner.  Like having the separate pots.  I don’t nest my fuel canister inside them, but find this is ok as rest of cookset is pretty compact.  Works for me, and have used this system for past 3 years.

On the AZT I used a 20oz cold soak jar from Litesmith and an Evernew titanium “companion cup” from Trail Designs. It was the only cup-shaped cup I could find that would nest perfectly on the outside of my jar. I used the cup to scoop water from wildlife waterers and to mix Emergen-C drinks. I would cold soak stuff in the jar hours in advance of eating so the cup could be used when the jar wasn’t empty.

I did not cook on the AZT but if I did want hot food I could boil water in the cup and pour it over my food in the jar because the jar is safe for boiling water. The cup only holds about 11oz but that should be enough for the foods I eat. The cup can nest a small canister or a stove but not both. You can fit an entire esbit system in the cup and Trail Designs sells one with the cup.

My kit here is an MSR Titan pot (850ml) and Sea to Summit collapsing silicone mug.  I have a homemade Reflectix cozy for the Titan for “hot soaking.”  Pretty happy with it.

Im looking for some thoughts of your favourite Pot/ cup combo in titanium. I’m going to get the PRD stove to go with them.

I have a pile of Ti stuff, but the one that will compactly fit both a 110g cannister, and the PRD inside with the lid on is the Evernew Ti U.L. Solo set 750. To add versatility to this combo, the Toaks 550ml mug can replace the smaller Evernew 400ml mug. The 550ml Toaks can serve as both a mug and bowl. It nests even better on the Evernew pot than the cup that comes with it!

750ml Evernew, with 550ml Toaks and PRD weigh’s exactly 8.0 oz’s on my scale.

Pot: MSR Titan (Ti) 1.5 L (157 x 90 mm, pot 115 g, Ti lid 58 g)
Cup: GSI plastic 350 mL (45 g) – and no burnt lips!
Day walks only: Trangia kettle
These are for TWO people: my wife and myself.

I use the Ti lid to protect all the things stored inside the pot when packed. Soft light Al lids don’t give the same protection imho. The Trangia kettle also gets used for storage on day walks.

Cheers

The height and width of this mug is perfect for a 600 ml size.

I’ve been hiking the last few years with an Evernew 600ml and a sidewinder Ti caldera cone.  If i do a hot breakfast i reconstitute and eat it out of its ziplock bag and use the pot as my coffee cup.  I was, for a while, bringing a separate cup but ultimately abandoned that.  Not for weight reduction, but for simplicity.  Just one less thing to keep track of.

6oz use Esbit mostly. Silicone lid for cold soaking.
