Apologies up front as this is actually a performance “problem” rather than a “bug”.

When posting a new thread topic, after clicking “Submit” it takes almost a minute for the website to refresh and display the new thread, during which time the page is unresponsive.  This is something I have noticed many times and only occurs when creating a new thread. Please note that the tread does (eventually) post, and correctly.  But the long response time makes one wonder if there is a problem or if the browser/computer has frozen.

Patience is a virtue, but the web waits for no one :)

Edit: oddly enough, response time for THIS new thread post was ~10 seconds.

just don’t get impatient and hit “submit” again thinking it “didn’t take” the first time

then you’ll get a duplicate post : )

I am only medium smart, it took me a couple times to get the muscle memory to quit doing it

ha, ha, dirtbag is a comedian.  Well played :)

If you do double-post there is a nice moderator who is happy to clean it up for you. You can always report it using Report This or chances are the moderator will take care of it without notification.

My perception is that the site is runs off of a very large database and that the delay is likely to be with us for the time being. I will report back.

there are other problems in the world more pressing

this one isn’t even annoying, just an opportunity for humor.  or “dad jokes”

When did BPL suddenly become so mellow :)

Now I’m kinda sorry I even brought it up.

now I feel bad disrespecting your initial complaint

that is a totally valid complaint to make, even if it isn’t the most pressing problem in the world

(half sincere, half another attempt at humor)

Not proud of upholding a long BPL tradition of making people feel bad with comments in a thread post.

To be perfectly clear, except for the OP every one of my posts in this thread (including this one) have been attempts at humor.  Emphasis on “attempts”.

As long as your attempts are done with a nasally, gruff voice you’re okay. I mean, somebody has to take over for Gilbert.

he was a couple years younger than me

I must be modeling his humor, always getting into trouble

Update

We have a developer looking into it. It’s actually one of the developers who wrote the software the site runs on. We hope to have some news to share soon.

I’m placing my bet on a database optimization issue…stored procedure tuning, or a missing/insufficient index…maybe even resource contention.  :)
