I’ve been using the Exped Schnozzel for a long time to pump up my sleeping pad and have always used it as a pack liner as well. It is probably at least 6 years old at this point and I’ve always wondered how good of a job it would really do protecting my gear from rain after that much time as I haven’t been substantially rained on during a trip in a long time.

I put some clothes in it and submerged it for about a minute and a half and I have to admit I was impressed to find the clothes completely dry. Thought I would share the results.

Likewise, my Schnozzel was 5 or 6 years old and it always worked well…until the seam tape started to peel. So I just bought a new one.

And it can be rigged to work with the Thermarest wing lock valve.  Remove the valve attachment from the thermarest pump sack attach to the sleeping pad and then the schnozzel fits into the valve attachment.

Just finished a hike of The West Highland Way, using my three year old, undamaged Schnozzel as a liner. Would have been bad if my quilt and clothing had not been in other waterproof bags. During two days of the hike, there was near constant rain and both days the Schnozzel wet through. This was not condensation from already-wet gear. I think I’ll shift to only compactor bags as liners and use the stuff sack my Nemo pad came with for inflation.
