After years of using Thermarest NeoAir pads, I got a Nemo “Tensor Extreme” (https://www.nemoequipment.com/products/tensor-extreme-ultralight-sleeping-pad?srsltid=AfmBOor5SIY_-QnxFfEvnOGw5gsMfDrGeIvGFjVjb-xXprRRasRoMuF6) pad a couple years ago, and have been quite pleased with it.

However, the “Vortex Pump Sack” that came with it, I have not found useful. It is quite slow to use if trying to fill the sack with ambient air, and if I’m going to inflate the pad with my own breath, I don’t need a sack, I could happily just put my lips to the pad.

By contrast, an Exped pad that I own (a heavy one, for different uses) came with their “Mini Pump” (https://www.exped.com/en/products/accessories/mini-pump?sku=7640277846661). I found it very quick and easy to use, and at 45g it isn’t crazy lightweight, but pretty reasonable.

Can someone tell me with confidence if the Exped “Mini Pump” will fit the Exped “Tensor Extreme,” or if some sort of adaptor would be required?

Yes, obviously I should be able to easily find out myself by simply trying, but I am here with my Nemo pad, on a different continent from my Exped mini pump… and the Vortex pump sack is so annoying that I am debating trying to somehow get an Exped mini pump here!

Thanks in advance if any of you know the answer!

I suggest experimenting more with the Nemo sack. Once you understand how to use it, you’ll realize that it is very efficient and does not use much of your own breath. I can open the sack fully with one gentle breath, and inflate the pad entirely in about 30 seconds using three sacks of air. I find it very easy to use, not annoying, lightweight, and effective.

Hmm, OK. Well, my motivation is to avoid using my own breath, to avoid putting humid air inside the pad. The reason is that I imagine the pad is a better insulator if filled with dry air than if filled with humid air. I think that theory makes sense, although I don’t have any idea how significant the insulation difference is, having the pad filled with dryer air or more humid air. I’m regularly using the pad in temperatures of around -25C, so the insulation value does really matter to me.

In the past, I’ve inflated various pads by mouth and it hasn’t been an issue for me, but I understand the concern.

With the Nemo, you only use a tiny amount of your own breath in expanding the pump sack. Just enough to open it up so that it fills with ambient air.

When inflating the pad by mouth, you would be breathing dozens of full breaths into the pad and it would be full of humid air. When expanding the sack, you just use one small puff, from a distance to open it up. And you only need two or three sacks of air to inflate the pad.

Have you looked at the Exped Schnozzel pump sack? I use it with a Nemo Tensor pad.  Dual use as it makes a great pack liner.
