Hi, in less than a week I’m going on a ~25 days hiking in the Sagarmatha National Park.

I’ve been wearing LaSportiva Wildcat 3.0 just a month ago during 17 days hiking in Lapland (Kungsleden). Before that I used to wear boots (Danner Crater Rim 6″).

I fell in love with the Wildcat and I’d like, if possible, to wear them for the EBC trek as well, but I haven’t had any experience of using trail runners on snow. For most part I guess/hope there isn’t going to be a lot of snow on the trail, but I’d very much like to hear of other people experience in that region during that time.

Is there a good reason why I should prefer boots this time if I’m not going to use crampons anyway (I’m not planning on summiting)?

We used UL shoes – really UL ones, around Nepal. It’s all on tracks.

Cheers

I went last year and wore trail runners, New BalanceĀ  Leadville 1210’s. On snow I added waterproof socks. No problems.

No experience in that part of the world but I have good luck using Rocky Goretex socks with non waterproof shoes. I recommend gaiters as well. That should work just fine for milder temperatures in snow.

Thanks guys, Wildcat it is then. I’ll see if they pair with my OR Rocky Mountain for the high passes.
