I’ve been participating here from a distance, since I spent five weeks cruising the rivers of Europe–it was work, I swear!

Rhine, Rhone, Seine, Saone, Bordeaux…lots of water, lots of wine, and a ton of photos.

If you’re interested in a non-backpacking adventure (longest day’s hike was about 4-5 miles, then check out my blog about it:

I know you’ve spent a lifetime learning to have the “right” to work like that – it looks amazing.  Thanks, as always, for sharing your adventures.  A couple of thoughts:

    • Marzipan “pig porn”?  Really?
    • The video of the bells reminded me of my first trip to Europe 35 years ago.  It was for work and we were “stuck” in Germany for two weekends and went to Heidelberg and were up on the hill at the castle at 6:00 pm when all of the bells in town started tolling.  My boss turned to me and said: “Kev – this is probably the most romantic moment I’ve ever experienced in my life and I’m stuck here with you.”  We both just laughed.
    • I really enjoy your ability to spot all of the building embellishments and all of the different gargoyles you found.

My wife and I are spending five days based in Aix-en-Provence in July without a set agenda.  We’ll have a car – anything in the area we shouldn’t miss?

    Hi Kevin

Thanks for the kind words!  It was a memorable trip.

Things to do in n Provence?  Depends on how much you want to drive.  Avignon, with it’s Palace of the Popes and Petit Palais museum is wonderful–we’ll spend a few days there on our next trip. And Arles is both beautiful and charming, with it’s Roman arena and Medieval walls.  Nimes with it’s Roman ruins ..

But one of 5he reasons we’re going back to Avignon for a few days is that we just want to savor the experience, eat great food, and wander. I’d recommend that for Aix. The wines are good, the food is great ..and the streets are a delight.  Read Peter Mayles for more fun.
