Had a great morning hike up to Echo Mountain. It’s been a while, but it’s still a great hike. It’s a tough 2.5 miles up to Echo Mountain, and then another 2.5 to Inspiration Point, for a total of 10 miles if you do the whole shebang. If you’re in the LA area, give it a try.

I have easy step-by-step hike directions on my blog here: https://hikingguy.com/hiking-trails/echo-mountain-hike/

Echo Mountain / Inspiration point is a nice hike. We did it a few months ago with my sons boy scout troop. We took the old railroad grade up the backside as the Scoutmaster for my Son’s troop is a bit of a train nerd. We stopped and had lunch at the Mt. Lowe campground (which is the site of the old Alpine Tavern) before heading down to Inspiration point and taking Castle Canyon back down to Echo Mountain.

That’s awesome. I have the railroad trail on my todo for the next time I’m there. Also would like to do an overnight from there to Mt Wilson via Eaton Saddle.
