Hi, everyone, really happy to have stumbled across this forum. Seems like a lot of practical experience w constructing gear in here.
I’ve made a few different bags out of a heavier weight dyneema with seams that are just stitched, not taped, and the seams keep ripping out. Curious if anyone has any prescriptive solutions like “tape dummy!” or thoughts about where to get more info on techniques to reinforce or …?
Aug 4, 2021 at 8:16 pm #3723908The BPL masterclass on DCF can address that question in detail and show you why the seams are tearing out, but the tl;dr version is this: DCF doesn’t like to rely on sewing alone. The thread literally cuts through the adhesive and protective layers and promotes failure of the material. You need to either tape, or tape and then sew, or sew and then tape…but one way or another, you need to include tape.
This said, I’m a total newbie at DCF…so, you might want to consider the class. It’s an easy hour of good info.
