Duplex vs. The Two

I have an awesome wife who bought me The Two for my birthday. The thing is, I’ve never thought about a DCF tent, and if I were going to spend $600 on a tent out prolly would have been a Duplex.

If I even set up The Two GG won’t take it back.

Keep it; return it and get a Duplex; or just return it and stay with my Notch?

Anybody have experience with both The Two and Duplex?

Yes.

I think I’m going to stick with my silnylon Notch for now, and use the $$$ elsewhere.

I had a duplex.  Sold it.

I personally prefer silpoly or silnylon over DCF for tents.  For the price savings.. just does not make any sense.. and i prefer that silnylon and silpoly take up much less pack space.

If it is a gift from the wife, use it :)

The owner advantage the Two DCF has is the Sil nylon floor. More drable than DCF and not prone to pinholes. Tarptent initially offered silnyl floors on DCF, but soon dropped them. Based on demand I guess. The odd thing is the GG DCF is only a few ounces lighter than the UL Sil version. There seems to be a lot of complaint about Sil nylon sagging when wet, which it does but that can be planned for. A six inch length of shock cord tied into the guyline, just before the stake, has taken care of the sag issue for me. Put a fair bit of tension on it via Lineloc (or similar) and things will be snug thru the night. By way of comparison, my Durston XMid silpoly has no sag to deal with. Ray Jardine, the godfather of UL, never complained about Sil sag……..
