I am looking to supplement my new katabatic flex 22 Quilt with a
down hood.Is one better, warmer more comfortable than another? I have
seen Katabatics,z packs, goose feet and Lukes ultralite. Just wondering if 1 is warmer or more comfortable than the other?

Cheers Kona

Not what you asked for but some of the synthetic offerings are really light and worth consideration.  My 2oz MLD Apex balaclava is under 2oz actual weight and feels is like having a portable furnace on my head.

Also not what you asked, but a lot of people use their hooded down puffy (or “poofay” if’n you are a Canuck) as a part of their sleep system. Extends the range of the quilt and saves $60. My windstopper micro-fleece beanie and down jacet hood also feel like a furnace.

Thanks Ian,
I had forgotten about mld and that looks like a good option. Not to
worried if it weighs an extra 1/2 oz if it functions well.

Hey JCH,
My mh ghost whisperer ” poofay ” is hoodless, but a great idea.
And of course to save some cash to spend elsewhere is always
nice.

Thanks for the ideas.

I have the Luke’s version and can say that it’s comfy and extremely warm. I went with it over some of the others out there because 1) it’s baffled instead of sewn through, 2) Luke’s sewing is terrific, and 3) I like to support the smaller cottage folks that will still do custom work.

Jack’s R Better had their hood on sale recently.  I’m also interested if anyone tried multiple brands.
