Don’t Sweat It

I ran the fabric portions of my backpack through the washer and dryer this week.  Cleaning reduced the weight from 15 ounces to 12.4 ounces.

I’m guessing the 20% added weight was a mix of dried sweat, salt and dirt.  I’m a heavy sweater.

The black fabric looked pretty clean prior to washing.

You’re sure you didn’t lose any straps or buckles in the dryer?  :-)

wow! 2.6 ounces of dirt

maybe some of it was dampness – when you were done the pack was totally dry

My pack has a lot of salt and dirt on it, I think I’ll hose it off

Fabric was completly dry prior to entering washer.

No missing straps or buckles.

Pack fabric is uncoated 1.7 ounce ripstop and fabric portions are easily removed from metal/carbon frame.  So putting it through the washer and dryer is easy.

I can’t find a way to spin this reply that would allow me to save face.  I made a mistake and must now correct it.

Todd T and Jerry’s skepticism was justified.  I failed to include the front bag in my post dryer weight.

So weight of pack (including front bag) went from 15 ounces to 14.6 ounces……a reduction in weight of only .4 ounces.

This error makes me question my recent cold fission successes.

That sounds a little more reasonable

You got me to hose off my pack which might weigh a little less now but mostly it looks better without those salt stains

“I can’t find a way to spin this reply that would allow me to save face. ”

How’s this: “turns out I’m far cleaner than I reported; moreover, I smell like a rose after a week of backpacking. I only washed .4 ounce of dirt, grime and sweat from my pack, which, according to Gentlemen’s Quarterly, means I’m in the upper strata of male desirability for similarly sweet smelling women.  That matches my I.Q, score of 250. I have no need to save my Brad Pitt resembling face; small mistakes in math only make me seem more approachable and common. Toute va bien!”

Thanks for the update.  Glad I didn’t bother to wash my pack!  :-)

Thank you for the hearty chuckle.

Call it 11 grams and it sounds more impressive.  ;-)
