I should probably ask my doctor this question but docs are expensive and you all are free.
Thinking ahead to July, when I will do my first extended trip in higher elevations, Iām slightly worried about altitude sickness, or mild symptoms anyway. Iām a regular blood donor, and just gave today. Should I skip my May donation? My Ā hematocrit is always good, about 45. I donāt know if there really is a relationship between this number and oneās likelihood of having symptoms. Seems like if there were, everyone would get it checked and take iron before doing activities at higher elevations. Is there really no way to predict how you will react? IĀ hate to skip donating, but maybe itās wiser this once? I guess I need to learn the science behind altitude adjustment.
