I was reading on the forum tips for what to put in a first aid kit and saw a mention of Pocket Duct Tape. It has a paper backing, so it lasts longer (in its unused state). I went to buy some, but they require a minimum order of ten and the shipping is high.

So, I thought of making my own. What “paper” do you think would work with duct tape?

You’ll have to experiment to see what sticks too much, not enough and just right, I suggest trying backing release paper (what a sheet of peel-and-stick labels comes adhered to), parchment paper, and/or wax paper.

yeah, parchment paper might work.  It works good for leukotape.

you want it to stick enough to stay on, but not too much so you can’t remove the tape

Some packing lists (LL Bean?) come on an entire 8.5×11 sheet of non-stick backing.

I like rounding the corners of bandaids, Moleskin, Luekotape, etc on the backing before peeling it off.

I’ll say this again: get the silicone liner release paper that signmaker’s vinyl is delivered on. Go to any sign shop in the universe and ask nice. They have miiiiiles of it in the trash.

Matthew K — OK, you got me to look up sign shops in town. It’s on my “Errands” list now and I’ll go see what they have.

heads-up: different brands or vinyl have different thickness of release paper. Generally the higher quality varieties have thicker, heavier paper. The cheap stuff is better for our purposes.

Bob — Thanks for the links. The first one has backing paper, the second one, I can’t tell. Both are a dollar a foot. Steep!

Parchment paper is $4

You’d have a bunch left over.  Good for making cookies
