Interesting, I did not know that Professional Backpacking Guide was a thing. Good to know. This could be really useful for when I get so decrepit that solo trips are too risky.
I’ve wanted to do anything at all in the outdoors industry for years, but my family and fixed expenses dictate I need well more money than anything outdoors related related pays.
Its a nice story, and probably a realistic depiction of the path to guiding, but depressing (to me) to hear that the only way he made it work was to start his life completely over, selling most of what he owned, nomad’d around the world for a couple years, got a NOLS WEMT (which was like $17k last i checked) and basically got lucky. I do not forsee any of that in my future. Sigh.
Guess I’ll just dream of that life until i win the lotto
