Hi Folks thought I would share some first impressions and some photos of new gear. Right off the bat some weights:

After seam sealing today the Deschutes weighs in at 12.23oz.
S2S Nano Solo 3oz
Atani Stake 0.22oz
First impressions of the Deschutes tarp; its exactly what I was hoping for, I’d be comfortable even carrying this as an emergency sheet for my little family of three on day hikes its amazingly spacious, quick to pitch and very well manufactured. I originally planned to cut the strapping in lieu of cord but the straps may be long enough to allow a high pitch to accommodate buds in a chill out zone (more testing needed there).

The S2S bug net is nice fits perfectly in the shelter even with the side tie off point and provides plenty of room for one. I did not have the polypro groundsheet installed in the pics or my mattress (obviously) but I suspect the mattress will assist in keeping the foot end a bit further away from the occupant. Failing that I may install a loop mid panel and figure out a way to hang it up.

The Atani stakes are on the money for weight and appear sturdy so far. I’ve only used them in my lawn but took a couple of tests banging them into my 1/4″ gravel crush path (like our Provincial park tent pads) and they took the beating just fine. As a bonus they work perfectly with the straps on the Deschutes.

All in with a polycro groundsheet (and combo of different stakes) I’ve got a total shelter weight of 18.21oz with a ZPacks stuff sack. Not bad given the price point and versatility of this setup.

Looks great! I just picked up the S2S net last night to try out under a flat (blue) tarp this weekend (slowly trying to bring down my baseweight). Hoping to buy a mid in the next year or so. Thanks for posting, and I look forward to hearing how it works out for you. Loop at the foot and head ends seems like a good mod that would increase the gap between user and net.

That is very nice.

And very light for a silnylon (is it?) shaped tarp with a bug inner and everything included at 18oz.

If going in very wet weather you could consider a bathtub groundsheet (DIY or from Zpacks). It would add 3~3.5oz, but like your whole set up, its flexible and you can take what you need.

The 12-13 oz Deschutes is silnylon, in cuben it’s (drool) 7 oz.

The Cuben version is indeed drool worthy… Tough to beat the price point on the Silnylon version. I do have the Cuben version on my wish list though, looking forward to testing this one out in the meantime and I suspect even after the Cuben one arrives I’ll keep this one in my day hiking bag as an emergency shelter. Pitched high I can get three adults under there sitting and low three cuddling :) super stoked!

I like the ZPacks bathtub floor and have ear marked that as a possibility I’ve also thought about making the polycro into a bathtub shape as well with and figuring out a way to keep the sides up…

very nice indeed!  I had the deschutes and really liked it – my only gripe was the MLD solo inner I used really wasted all that space behind the net.  I like the use of the S2S nano net in there!

It’s why  I want a CF version of the Lunar Solo.

Yup you lose space with the inner. Though with the S2S I can tie off to the side point and make use of the space or because it simply lifts up I can use the space as a mini vestibule keeping the front “main” vestibule clear of obstructions! :)

Looks great. Do you have some kind of pull-out at the corners on the nano- your own mod, or does it come with it?

I have both the CF and silnylon Deschutes. As has pointed out in other threads, the CF is not any smaller to pack, and I find the silnylon more satisfying in some way I can’t articulate, except that it does droop at night.

Well Hoosier has me motivated to make a silpoly version of the deschutes.  He’s also done what I’ve been thinking about doing – which is make it a SW enclosed shelter…like a combo Lunar solo and Altaplex and deschutes.

A 20D silpoly version of this would be pretty compelling and darn near Cuben weights. I have zero sewing skills but do have the equipment…. hmmm I’d be supportive of this project Jennifer! :)

@cameronm The S2S Nano has loops at each corner. I simply cut the excessively long mini shock cord it came with and used that as the cord to attached to the Deschutes. Works great and the stretch allows for lifting the bottom of S2S without issue. I have a bunch of snap hooks on order and will likely use those at the ends of the shock cord.
