Death Valley

Many folks spend their days hiking up the many canyons and back.  Check out Steve Hall’s site for a lot of possibilities.

Hiking Death Valley is definitely the book to get.

Bighorn Gorge would be an obvious one, parking on the road and heading west down and then up the alluvial fans to the mouth and on.

Near stovepipe wells is Cottonwood canyon. You can do about a thirty mile loop up cottonwood and down Marble Canyon. There are loads of write ups on this hike. Take a good map, it can be a bit tricky dropping down into the right canyon on the return. I didn’t but ended up with a killer hike anyway.

Thanks. The 30 mile Cottonwood Canyon hike is a bit ambuItuous for us on a day hike. It did sound like a great hike, though. Steve Hall’s site is really helpful. We did the standard Golden Canyon/Grower Canyon loop yesterday and the Funeral Slot Canyon hike this morning. With our side canyon investigations, we extended both to a little over 8 miles.

Bighorn Gorge is the one that jumps to mind.  BUt also Through Canyon to Granite Canyon in the Owlshead Mountains.

If you haven’t done it, Golden Canyon up to Zabriskie Point, and then back down the Gulch is a great hike…but only about 8-9 miles maybe?
