Hello All, I couldn’t find any prior threads on this so…

I love tarps, all tarps and have many, just now getting into the DCF craze myself.

I have sil/nylon, poly/silnylon, spinntex etc..

and now DCF(green MLD) well I see now different makers are doing packs in the Black.

I see black packs ALOT…but I have not seen black tarps anywhere???

90% of the time my tarp doesn’t come out until very near dark, so the (black gets hot)

answer is not a problem for me, I wanted my NEXT tarp to be in the really cool Camo pattern.

which I really like a lot. but I would 100% buy a black one, who makes them??

also the silver Dyneema of the newer packs look really sweet to, what about a tarp in silver??

if anyone knows if they are being produced by someone PLEASE LET ME KNOW..

and what does the BPL community think of them ??thanks a lot..Don

Locus Gear has multiple colors of DCF and Z-Packs has a camo.  The reason you don’t see much colored DCF is that it’s not a stock item, so it requires a large order which with the cost of DCF gets very expensive compared to silnylon, etc.

Most of the colored DCF you see in packs is a hybrid material with a 50d polyester outer layer that can be dyed colors.  It’s a heavier material and wouldn’t be suitable for tarps.

Hi Brad, thank you for your input. it being very expensive for the operator makes sense.

but is the Black more expensive for them to buy as opposed to say..the green or blue and even camo?

I wouldn’t think so, but maybe?? I would think that a lot of people would really WANT the darker version.

as the Camo seems to sell quite well and from what I gather..at a premium…on some sites.

I did go to the Locus Gear site, but I am not sure how to convert their currency to ours, 17,800..scared me!!!  lol..the pack hybrid material not being suitable for tarps makes sense.

do you or anyone know of anyone here(US) that sells and or would build one?

I did see on fabric by the roll they sell the black in I believe 36×54 pieces for near $20, not exactly

sure how much you would need to buy to build a tarp around 8×10 roughly…or something

along the lines of the (MLD grace duo) which is exactly what I want(HINT-to anyone interested in building me one. .lol… thanks so much  Don

17,800Â¥ to the dollar is $164.21

just google to calculate, like THIS it’s easy and I have purchased from Locus Gear no problems, they are a very good company to deal with

I think it’s all about supply and demand.  You may think there is an obvious demand based upon your personal experience, but on the scale that gear manufacturers must buy to get attention and product from the producer, maybe not.  My experience with DCH tells me that UL backpackers don’t tip DSM’s scales one bit.  Our niche only gets what’s left over.
