Hi,

We are planning a trip to Shenandoah National park for a week next year, we will be day hiking only and not backpacking.

Our options are to go end May. start of July or start of Sept.

What would be the best month for least bugs and cooler during the day?

Thanks,

Stephen

May will be the coolest.  Both May and September are very unpredictable, though, temperature-wise.  You could easily get heat and humidity or much cooler temps.  July is almost always hot and humid.

The further you are from summer, the fewer bugs you’ll encounter.

Thanks Brad,

I kind of guessed July would be hot. Would I be right to assume Sept will be less buggy than May?

They’re about the same.  It varies by year.

I’d probably go with September.  On average, it’s less rainy.

I will plan for September so.  Will be driving  with a rv from Michigan so may make it a 2 week trip.
