Noticed recently that Darn Tough Vermont has no cushion lightweight socks. I’ve always worn their Men’s Light Hiker Micro Crew Lightweight Hiking Sock, which has very light cushion in the form of slightly denser material underfoot, atop the ankle and up the Achilles which does increase durability. Does anyone find their no cushion socks to be more comfortable? Is there a big reduction in durability? I’d imagine the no cushion socks may work better for very hot, humid weather.

I hike 3 seasons in breathable trail runners (low boots + overboots or gaiters for winter).

I use the no cushion socks for gym workouts and warm weather running.  I find them comfortable and durable for those conditions.  My hiking shoes are sized to wear a heavier cushioned sock so I don’t wear them hiking, but if your shoes are sized for them I’m sure they would do great.

I recently tried a no cushion variation (Style 1715) of my preferred light cushion (Style 1959) and I like the feel of it except that it seems to run a bit larger and moves around on my foot while hiking in my Brooks Cascadias. I’m not sure if they are actually larger or if they are moving because of some dynamic related to filling the shoe differently. To be fair, I’m at the bottom of the size range in the 1715 so maybe I should have sized down. I think I have only washed them twice and I wonder if they may tighten up after a couple of more spins in the dryer…

No cushion has been my goto for the last ten+ years.  I love them. I have averaged around 4000 miles before the first hole appear  in front of  my big toe. My memory is your feet are larger than mine… but if you can fit size L and are still in PA, you would be welcome to a pair from my cache.  I got a bunch on sales years ago that that I am not using much because I am mostly living in sandals these days and using xoskin toe socks anytime I am doing serious miles.
