I have been lusting for my final, Buy once cry once, unicorn quilt and was finally ready to pull the trigger on a highly customized Nunutak Arc UL20 in a couple weeks, but see Jan changed course and is moving to a ‘customized-stock’ model and no longer is doing custom builds! Sounds like he’s been buried under orders for years now so I understand the change, but its sad to lose another true-custom first tier gear maker.
With that in mind, does anyone know of another custom quilt maker who offers differential cut, ETC, WPB footbox fabric, (ideally down mapping and tapered baffles too, but I know that’s an unlikely stretch)? The Warbonnet Diamondback quilt gets close, but dont offer waterproof fabric or down mapping options and only 15d fabric right now.
I am still considering Trailheadz and Timmermade, but both use 100% horizontal baffles, which is an inferior design to me, compared to split or fully vertical.
If I have to use one of them, any strengths/weaknesses/quirks to their designs I should know of? Or are there any other hyper-engineered custom gear makers I can consider? Did Nunutak have an equal?
