Could this be used as tent and tarp material?

I accidentally stumbled upon the below while looking to see if any strides have been made in increasing the tensile strength of polypropylene polymers:

It’s made up to a meter wide, and at a thickness of .18 mm. Polypropylene has a density of around .91 g/cm3  PP is also quite an inexpensive base material, though the process they use might be more expense adding. Wonder if it could be applied to backpacking (it would need UV stabilizers added)?

If not by itself, then maybe in conjunction with another material, as a composite with some loosely woven, low denier PP fabric (theoretically, since it’s the same polymer material you could pressure+low heat bond them together and use only 1 layer of the film)?   Or maybe more loosely woven 50D Dyneema, Spectra, or generic UHMWPE fiber fabric.  (Sort of like an ultra high strength and more durable version of Dyneema Composite Fabric/Cuben Fiber).

Looks really interesting. Although using those two figures you quoted I estimated a weight of 164 g/m2, which isn’t all that light.

Yeah, it’s thicker than I first realized. I’m not fully use to thinking in metric terms and measurements.  I converted it to “Mil”, which I’m use to thinking in terms of film thickness and it’s equivalent to about 7 mil thickness which is pretty thick for a film.

I wonder if they can make it thinner, or if another company already does?   A 1 to 1.5 mil (.025 mm to .038 mm)  thick film would be more suited weight wise to tarp/tent material.
