Good question. I live near San Luis Obispo, and I don’t know much about it. We do have lots of rampant poison oak around here, so a poorly maintained trail can be a hazard if you are sensitive. I’ll be following this topic with interest. http://www.condortrail.com/faq/ Maybe this person knows: https://bryanconant.com/CONDOR/CondorTrailLayout.pd
I did hear of a person who made it southbound from Cuesta Ridge (Hwy 101 south of San Luis) to the Santa Lucia Wilderness near Lopez Lake a few years ago. He said the trail was non existent, and characterized the bushwacking through the poison oak as a foolish endeavor.
I have heard the actual trail work is being spearheaded by a local horseback group. Last year I did find a really nice trail from the Hi Mountain Road, Forest Road 30S05, headed north. It is at the end of the county maintained portion of the road (the road is very bad after this point). It seemed if someone were walking north from the Garcia Wilderness, this new trail would continue north.
http://www.hikelospadres.com is a great source for seasonal water information. Now is a good time to go, later it can be very hot and dry.
