Crossing a creek 2.5 months ago I slipped and broke every bone and tore every tendon in my ankle. Luckily, I was wearing a high ankle boot (not ultralight) that pretty much held my entire ankle together and I didn’t need surgery.

This is not my first break in my feet… I’ve broken 8/10 of my metatarsals.

I hope to start hiking long distances again soon. Has anyone had similar debilitating injuries and still been able to get out there?

I was still hiking after two times in a walking cast, so I’m hoping my third time doesn’t do me in.

I was in a car accident and developed some scar tissue in a joint.  For the most part it went away but took 2 years or so of hiking for my body to get used to it.

I had mild pain at first but that went away and now I’m fine.

I fractured my own ankle 2 years ago – then promptly went and hiked the Gila Wilderness 2 weeks after my accident (NOT a good idea), and the full JMT several months after that (wonderful idea).  Check out my blog posts about rehabbing from an ankle fracture and hiking:

Broke my ankle playing hoops this winter…I really enjoyed that blog post. Thanks!
