Trying to put together a ~week-long bikepacking trip in Northwestern MT late June/early July this year. I have most of my kit pretty dialed and have just about everything I could possibly need to choose from in terms of clothes to consider bringing. Problem is, I’m not really sure yet what to expect for weather. Best I can tell, the weather is predictably unpredictable.
I tend to run warm and thus am planning (at the moment) to ride in shorts and a thin, long sleeve zippered wool top. Will have a mid layer, puffy jacket, tights of some sort, gloves and warm hat for insulation. Will also pack along a windshirt or similar.
Where I’m stuck is rain gear. I hate the clamminess of (insufficiently) breathable rain gear. Obviously, I’ll still bring along a rain jacket. Are rain pants and/or waterproof gloves warranted for a mountainous trip in this part of MT during the early summer months? Was thinking about maybe just bringing wind pants instead (aside from tights, these would be my only pants on the trip) or rain pants cut off into shorts. Just can’t see myself happily wearing rain pants unless it was snowing or on the verge.
Any other clothing advice I’m missing? Thanks in advance.
