Started using roll top cuben fibre bag (hyperlite, zpacks was backed up, needed it quickly so wound up with this one) for food storage, occasionally have to hang it on bear pole and when doing that, i’m looking at the clip and wondering – “is this thing going to fail from stress/weight while it’s hanging?” i had just under 4 kg (8lbs) for my last 5 night trip, which is as heavy as i see this bag every getting.

so, couple of questions

– do i never need to worry about this? clip just won’t fail with that much weight and certainly won’t ever fail with a bit less?

– if there’s any chance it would fail, are there any tips or tricks

I’ve used Lukes Ultralight Hybrid DCF and Zpacks DCF bags. Both have roll top clips and I have had upwards of 10lbs in them with no issue hanging from the clip. The carabiner I use is from a SeatoSummit spoon with no specs rating and that holds great as well. I make sure and give the bag several rolls to ensure a solid holding point, then attach the carabiner to the base of the roll at its strongest point. I don’t think you should ever not worry about it. YMMV, I’ve had great success with it over the years though.

<p style=”text-align: left;”>I have one on a mld sack</p>
I dont use that anymore.

All the clip did under stress was  bunch sticky cuben in one end on slot….making a mess. Didnt fail….and it is small.  But…it could fail….and not fond of things that can fail and be problems.

I prefer heavy corded bag.   I squeeze top together and make half-hitch around it….its tightly closed….tightly held.
