This is getting pretty old, but I wanted to circle back with the solution I came up with in case anyone finds it helpful.
I tried making a reflectix case. It kind of worked, but felt rather flimsy. So I kept searching and ran across a case by ThinkTank called Mirrorless Mover 5. It fits my A6000 perfectly and has a magnetic flap that works well for the run-n-gun shooting I tend to do when I’m out with our Scout Troop. With the case picked out, I just needed to figure out how to carry it.
I remembered I had a strap on an old film camera with plastic buckles for different attachments. I went to their website and found all I needed. The company is Op/Tech USA. I ditched the strap that came with the new case and with a few inexpensive Op/Tech accessories, I was able to suspend the case from my backpack straps, on my chest while hiking. I can also quickly disconnect the case from the backpack and clip it to the Opt/tech strap, turning it into a light weight shoulder bag for when I’m ready to explore w/o my pack.
The old strap I had was their Pro Strap. I ordered their Backpack Connector which stays attached to my backpack straps. Then, I got their Extensions which allowed me to quickly connect the strap pad to the case.
I tried it out this weekend on a scout trip and was really pleased. The case rode much better on my chest than the CaptureClip I tried previously. The magnetic flip top allowed me quick access to my camera while hiking. Once we made camp, I converted it to a shoulder sling which kept my camera well protected and allowed me to keep it handy on side hikes and when the scouts did something funny or photo worthy.
The case by itself weighs about 4.5 oz and case + shoulder strap assembly weighs 8oz. More importantly, the protection, versatility and usability are just what I was looking for.
