“Two teenagers are “lucky to be alive” after they miraculously survived five-foot snow drifts and whiteout conditions during a hike in the middle of Southern California’s historic winter storms.”

“They got lulled into a false sense with the weather being good (in Palm Springs).”
Palm Springs weather just before they left was around 60 F (16 C) and partly cloudy at an elevation of 479 feet (146 meters). The teens were rescued at around 5,000 feet (1,500 meters) elevation.
BTDT on Mt San Jacinto but didn’t need rescue. Definitely a learning opportunity.
Maybe others can learn from their experience.
