I will be traveling to Madera, Ca in a few weeks for work and would love to slip in a 3 day weekend backpacking trip. Here are my requirements:
- West side of sierras, within a few (5?) hours drive of Madera. Easy shuttle or hitching logistics.
- Ambitious (40-70 miles), maybe less if significant snow. I’ll be using this as a training trip for other objectives this spring. I would also consider a series of awesome dayhikes (up to 30 miles/day).
- Snowshoe travel and off trail fine (preferred?), but no mountaineering/limited avy exposure. I don’t ski unfortunately…
A little more background: I did the northern half of the sierra high route last summer in 5 days and considered that leisurely. I would love to get back into the sierra for a few days, especially with snow on the ground. I know the higher areas are probably out of reach without ski/mountaineering skills, but are there any cool trips I could do based out of the valleys (Yosemite, SEQI, etc)? Whatcha got for me BPL?
