For anyone wearing the Brynje Unisex Super Thermo Long Sleeve with Inlay, what is your experience regarding the sizing? I actually fall into 3 different categories of their sizing chart; large for my height, medium for my waist, and small for my chest. I’ve emailed them, but haven’t heard back yet, however I put more stock in people’s experiences than manufacturers specs, so I’d like to hear any thoughts. Thanks!

I’m in a similar situation — XS chest, M waist, L height. I had the Brynje Ā wool long sleeve w/inlay in small for a couple of years, the sizing worked well and it was an ok length but was skin tight all around (I liked that, but maybe not for everyone). I washed it once warm and it shrunk a small amount, just enough that became constricting. I recently ordered the synthetic in M and have used it just a few times. I am happy with it. It’s a little looser around the body & armpits, but I don’t notice the looseness in terms of performance, and it’s a lot easier to get on an off than the S.
Paul,
They fit tight…they will hug your body (which is what they are supposed to do).Ā I think if you get the Large, it will probably still hug your waist and chest.Ā Ā However, they also have plenty of arm and torso length so a Medium might fit too but it will be a tighter.Ā I would try both if you can.
I am 5ā11ā, currently 43ā chest, 35ā waist, 200lb, broad shoulders. I have the long sleeve synthetic liner in size Large; I was 10-15lb lighter when I bought it. Testing today it is skin tight, but generally I think itās about the right sizing; there is still more stretch remaining in the weave. Mostly importantly the sleeves are long enough and itās just long enough to tuck in.
I think unless you have an athletic build, youāre not going to find a perfect fit. Mine is tight in some areas while loose in other areas. Itās kind of stretched to the point of evening itself out somewhat.. Itās mostly a loose fit which works for my activity level. If I was more athletic , and sweated more, Ā Iād want a tighter fit. What I donāt like about the looser fit is when I layer up the sleeves, they tend to bunch up. I have to tug on them to straighten them out. Not a real big deal. Slightly annoying. I have the wool, I may try to shrink fit it. Ā Ryan mentioned that he prefers the sleeveless for less restriction. That makes sense. Still I donāt regret getting long sleeve.
I’m typically an athletic fit medium or loose large.Ā On Jeff’s recommendation I ordered a large in the short sleeve.Ā Ā Snug but not constraining (material has a ton of give), fits comfortably under a snug fitting Lifa with no bunching up.Ā Its a bit long on the trunk but OK (I’m 19.5″ torso length)
I went ahead and shrunk my top. It really didnāt shrink that much, but it does fit a lot better.
I’m 5′-8″, 190#, chest 46″, biceps 17″, waist 36″, thighs 25″, inseam 30″. Neanderthal build (thank you Scottish ancestors). I got the Unisex Super Thermo Long Sleeve with Inlay – XL and the Men’s Super Thermo Longs Base Layer with Fly & Inlay – L.
I was pleased and a bit surprised by how well they fit, since clothes big enough for my chest, shoulders and thighs are often too long. The lowers looked waaaay too long until I put them on, but they fit well. Close to the skin but not overly tight. Similar with the top. Seems like the fishnet weave adjusts itself pretty well.
Looking forward to some ski expeditions and winter camping to try them out.
Iām 6ā 195 lbs. 35ā waist and thinner legs. I found the large poly bottoms a bit baggy and long. I guess it has to do with body type and how they stretch.. I wish I had bought the wool so I could shrink them.
Interesting. I have the wool mesh inlay shirt. Below are my fit remarks, relative my size L:
- Sleeve length: slightly long
- torso length: extremely long
- Torso circumference: snug. I am usually a M for chest, and this fits perfect. That said, if you had a bigger chest, it might stretch enough to still be comfy.
We-a rate question, what fabric are the inlays on the polypropylene super thermo mesh? Are they also 100% polypropylene?
How thick are they? On the wool mesh I have, itās fairly thick, Iād say like a 180gsm merino or even 210.
I a wool top with poly bottoms. I believe the inlays are the same poly. I donāt see much difference from the wool other than the fiber of course.
A note on the bottoms. With my build and size large, the inlays are below my knees.
Super Thermo is all polypropylene, the solid bits are 200 g/m2 (mesh is 140 g/m2).
Brynje do not give a fabric breakdown between solid and mesh for Wool Thermo though.
I’m 5’9″ at 155 lbs.Ā I wear a 38 jacket and 28 pants.Ā Ā I was a long time swimmer.
I wear a medium.Ā It fits tight across the chest and stomach.Ā Long arms and length.
I wore it for the first time on a 7.5 mile snow hike at Snoqualmie Pass near Seattle.Ā I wore an Alpha Tec pullover over it.Ā Ā It was 40F degrees.
I was amazingly surprised how well it worked.Ā I NEVER felt wet, even under my pack.Ā I was amazed how well the combination kept me warm.Ā Ā I’m looking forward to trying it more as the winter continues.
+1 on the Alpha over the mesh. Iām using 90gsm Alpha. I can feel the softness of the Alpha through the mesh. It feels very nice. Luxurious. The 2 fabrics tend to cling together in a good way. Iād say 40* is about right if thereās not much wind. Mesh alone works around 50*. Again little wind.
I’ve been using a Brynje Unisex Super Thermo Long Sleeve with Inlay for most of my winter aerobic activities since 2019.Ā According to the Brynje sizing chart, my chest is S, and my waist and height are M. I opted for size S for a skin-tight fit.Ā It fits me well; the inlays fall right where they should.Ā In most uses, I top it with a snug-fitting fleece top with aĀ 12″ zip so that I can easily dump excess heat.
6’1″ / 154lbs and pretty lean all over, and I’ve been using size M for all fishnets (tops and bottoms) by Brynje and Aclima since the late 90’s early 00’s.
Sizing seems to have changed for many of the Scandinavian brands in that time (now aligning more with US sizing) as I now more often wear Small independent of brand or where it’s from, but Brynje seems to be consistent and still fits well in medium.
I just got a Super thermo mesh (large voids, PP) in size L, in the regular crew (no overlays).
I would say it is a snug L in the chest, waist and shoulders. I am more M in those areas and I have a little bit of looseness.
Sleeve length seems pretty standard for L.
Torso length is long for a L.
