Hi,

I’m looking at getting a Borah side zip bivy, regular length. I was curious of the width. They have a wide version. I’m 5’7” 165 lbs. with shoulders that are wider than average for that size. I’m a side sleeper that tosses and turns. I didn’t know if the regular width would be fine. Any experience with the wider version? Thanks for any help.

No direct experience…… yet

But take into account the thickness and width of your sleeping pad.

He responds to email really quickly. Send him a message and do tell him what temp rating quilt and what width pad you will use.

I’m 6’1” and 180. I have the regular length wide version and for me it’s too wide. I’m also a side sleeper. It’s so wide for me that the sides of the bottom fabric are almost at ground level and I find myself sort of sliding around inside it. But I suspect it’s all a matter of personal preference.

Bivy’s are already confining enough.. i would go wide just for extra tossing and turning room..

you could have him make the bottom a little wider than the top so the top isn’t touching the ground.

(im 6’2 195 and have a long/wide. seems to fit well.)

Thanks for the feedback. I’ve emailed with him and got it all sorted out. I went with a wide because my BA pad is 3”. I’d like to have one bivy to use all year which includes winter with a -25 bag and a foam pad underneath, so I’ll need the extra room. I also bought a bug bivy and went with a regular width on that one.

Makes perfect sense, glad it worked out. He makes good stuff!
