David – I hope your feet are going OK? Feet are such design marvels given all we do to them – breaks can make things more complex +.

Rats about the fixomull price.

So about wider toes in Injini socks…that’s because your toes can naturally splay! That’s not a bad thing. But it means you need shoes with a wider toe box (not wide shoes). I wear a lot of Topo shoes nowadays due to this. As well as Keen Voyageurs. The positive side is my toes sit more naturally now.

And if anyone gets little toe side blisters? Your shoes are not wide enough! You are pushed up against and hence the hot spots. I know, this used to be me. For a dayhike this isn’t an issue often, it’s the multi day hikes that lead to issues, or if it is very hot and your feet sweat. Airing out is important, and if doing long miles, carry a second pair socks to swap into part of the way in. But most of all – get a wider toe box so your toes can function as they should.

“And if anyone gets little toe side blisters? Your shoes are not wide enough!”

I think that’s what happened to me.  The REI salesman said my shoes were too narrow and suggested a different brand/model.  Since then I have had zero blisters.  On my old boots I got many blisters each trip.

I was getting that impression with the old boots, because loosening the laces helped a little, which made it wider.

Thanks Megan.  I broke a metatarsal bone in ’22 and a baby toe over the holidays.  Even before that the widest available footwear was too narrow in the toe box and mid foot so I always needed Injinjis and Leukotape.

With my foot even wider now (there goes any hope of being a foot model), it’ll make finding new footwear for the spring interesting.  I’ll be BPL’s lab rat for blister prevention methods.  :)

Hey Sarah,

I agree about little toe blisters and wide toe boxes. It’s just I have e width short feet (US 7.5). Lots of other posts online for people with duck-feet like me struggling with walking boots and shoes 😏. And boots suit my other walking needs better than shoes. I just bought Lowa boots for the widest toe box i could find here. still don’t work with injini 😞. Fixomull/hyperfix taped toes again.

After trying just about everything out there, Lowa wides were the widest I could find as well, both toe box and mid foot.  Still not wide enough, I was using a boot stretcher and that helped a bit.

I hope to move to a lighter non waterproof mid height next and if I find a wider model, will post.  Moving up from size 13 wide, to 14 wide (ack)

Now all I can think of is when I used to watch my ducks run ;-) And they were cute for sure.
