    @jimothy

    Locale: Georgia, USA

    Like a lot of us, the last place I want to be on Black Friday is anywhere near shopping. So the past several years, I’ve done an overnight backpacking trip with my dogs in the North Georgia Mountains.

    This year, though, drought has brought wildfires. Even in areas that aren’t burning, I’m concerned about smoke and water availability.

    So maybe it’s time to explore a different area. Any suggestions?

    I’d like a place where I can take my dogs, get in a good 10-15 miles, and have good access to water to filter. No more than a four hour drive from Atlanta, and preferably closer to two hours

    This doesn’t have to be a hardcore backpacking trip, just a good overnighter while I leave the fighting over TVs to others. Thank you, and happy trails.

    Just read this, but how about the Smokies?
