Seems like a sick UL tent for us non trekking pole guys who are taller. Anyone have any experience with this tent? I realize the vestibule isnt large but it seems to be what i am looking for as a taller guy

I have the 2 person (not sure if they make a 1 or 3). It’s light, but…
It’s tight for two. I’m 5’7” and 165lbs. It’s smaller than my TT double rainbow and BA Copper Spur 2. I now consider it a good one person tent with some room. It’s light enough for one to carry without issue. The silnylon fly is very light. Too light as it seems too fragile and has ripped in one spot. It also feels like it absorbs more water than my Copper Spur fly. So after a solid rain it’s a mess to carry around if packed wet.
I wouldn’t buy it again.
@hre814 im in Colorado, we for sure get rain but luckily ive never had a tent wet out here. Would you say overall the tent is pretty decent? I was looking also at the nemo hornet elite. Seems like the fly creek might be better for me because im 6’1 and i dont want my face touching the tent fabric
If precipitation isn’t a big issue, than you can cancel out that negative point. It’s is decent. I’ve seen worse tents that are by far heavier. I still own it and plan on using it as a big single person tent or my 16 year old is tired of bickering with her younger siblings and may start using it as her own solo tent. So it’s nice and light for that solo use purpose. I’m in Alaska, so rain or morning internal and external condensation is part of our backpacking life most times. At 6’1” I don’t know what that would be like. I have plenty of room, but I forget what the internal length is. I didn’t feel the walls were in my face, but I’ve never used it for two. I felt very comfortable inside of it by myself. Not sure if you plan on using it for two at all.
@hre814 this is all really good info. So does this material wet out even in a light rain? Or is that just in a downpour? Also Im jealous of you living in alaska!
It wets out in a light rain but in Alaska we don’t get light rain showers with the return of the sun or warm temps. It stays moist and drying out isn’t as easy in late July, August and September.
Sounds like a horrible shelter based on your experience.
Damn I’m conflicted now haha
I’m still looking at the Nemo hornet elite as well. I’d worry with a 3inch pad and a pillow my face might be against the tent fabric
Herman, can you contrast this tent with another that doesn’t wet out. And by wetting out, do you mean it leaks? Or, it keeps you dry but the fabric is saturated when you pack up in the morning? More so than other tents?
Doesn’t leak. Just saturated silnylon. Yes, more so than our copper spurs and a lot more than my double rainbow or MLD mid.
I wonder if extra dwr treatment would help mitigate that. I’m not super worried out here in CO. I definitely sleep below tree line most of the time out here
I’m still looking at the Nemo hornet elite as well.
I had the regular Hornet 1p and currently have the Elite 1P. Love them. Have yet to get condensation, even in heavy thunderstorms set up aside lakes in the Beartooth.
Plenty roomy for me (5’10″/150lbs).
@bradmacmt does the head wall of the tent come close to your face at all? Im 6’1 use a 3in thick pad as well as a pillow, so that one of my worries. Thats why i was thinking the fly creek may be a good option

No problem with the headwall. I use a Neoair pad, and an inflatable pillow.
@bradmacmt that’s good to know, maybe ill stick with getting the hornet elite then.
