Best value pyramid shelter

I have a megalight. I have used only two times but so far so good. Some mid height tie loops could be a nice addition. Mine is not seemsealed and I haven’t used it when raining, so I can’t comment on the need to do it. I expect to use it this winter with two friends. If you are in Canada, don’t bother with Massdrop and buy it at MEC.

I was in the same situation and chose the Oware 8×8 Mid. Bought it during his BPL Holiday sale for $160 shipped. Including stuff sack and pole binder strap, it weighs 22.5 oz. In grey silnylon.

Frankly, IMHO, the BD is too heavy for its size and it’s color scheme looks like a circus tent..

Given the other choices available,I did not even consider it..

I and many of my friends and at least one professional guide service here in Alaska uses them extensively in winter for both sleeping and as cook tents.  I have one with a TiGoat stove boot that I use with a small wood stove for hunting in the fall.  Perhaps a bit heavy, but roomy, versatile, handles wind well when pitched correctly, and durable – and doesn’t BD have a great guarantee?

The Megalight (tarp only) weighs about 24-25oz and is 104″ x 104″. I think that’s pretty darn light for its size

The mega light is silnylon and should be comparable in weight to all other sil nylon shelters.

I don’t care for the two tone look myself.

Haha yeah the BD is pretty ugly.

I get that Oware says that vents don’t do anything, but I am nervous to buy a shelter without one. If the sale was still going on, however, I’d probably go with Oware.

I really did not mean to seem that harsh about the BD..I guess the specs I saw showed it over 2 lbs..

Many folks here own and like them and YES –  Black Diamond has a great gaurantee! That said, if they really are that light at $200, I say pull the trigger ,circus tent look or not..;)

I just want to  chime in on vents.  I would recommend them if you are using them outside of winter.  Every mid I have made without them was a sweat lodge in the summer.  Especially in the sun.

Seek outside BT-2.  Just over $200

I’ve looked at the BT-2… Seek Outside makes amazing stuff. Wondering how roomy it is for two. I’m thinking not very.

@brian_p: If you have the luxury of time then I suggest checking Gear Swap for a used SuperMid from MLD. I picked one up for about $225 shipped about two months ago. It’s in very good condition (no rips/holes etc) and even came with some good stakes. Otherwise you could always post a WTB ad and include your budget. You may find what you’re looking for more quickly.  If you have two or three months to search then I’m pretty sure you could come up with something in that range. May seem like kind of an obvious suggestion but does require some patience and time to check back often.
