I’m in the market for a nice UL mattress conversion kit. Currently my mattress rotation is the S2S Comfort Plus and the Exped Synmat both which are 20 in wide.

I’m so disappointed that so called UL camp chairs are at least 1lb in weight. I must carry a bear can in the Sierra Nevada so that acts as a decent camp chair but I want something I can sit back and read a book or something inside the tent. Any recommendations around 5-6oz or less?

My Thermarest 20″ pad sleeve weighs 10.7 oz., but I don’t see why you couldn’t make a similar one from a lighter material that would work for you.

At 5-6 ounces, I imagine you’ll be limited to a 3-legged stool or something strung between trees.  I’ve played with DIY stools and can make one at about 6 ounces from the aluminum tubing in crutches ($5/pair or often free at my local Salvation Army).

Not UL, but there were Lounge Chair Kits by Therm-a-Rest:

at 18 ounces that converted your sleeping pad into a chair but the material was pretty heavy-duty.  I could imagine one working fine with materials that weighed half as much (self-inflating pad not included).

Inside a tent, anything with legs is going to put a lot of wear on the floor, even a Thermarest style chair.

Have you tried rolling/folding up one end of your mattress to lean back against?
