If there is such a product (other than the NIKWAX version) what are your experiences with it OR with the NIKWAX version?

Eric, assume you meant ‘wash-in.’

One issue I ran into is that wash-ins also treat the inside of the garment.  If it is a WPB laminate or so-called 2.5 layer, there could be a problem with treating the inside face.  It definitely is an issue if the wash-in is a waterproofing treatment.   It can clog up the works.

One DWR wash-in is Granger’s, at:                                                                 https://zpacks.com/products/grangers-wash-repel-dwr-treatment

Tectron spray DWR is sold out at most places, but one place says it is in stock:                        https://www.outdoorshopping.com/os/Tectron-DWR-Spray-For-Apparel-Formulated-To-Give-Maximum-Water-Repellency.html

Suggest caution with anything with silicone.  It can ruin a WPB laminate.                                And care should be taken with DWR sprays, lest they contain PFOAs, a toxic material.  I would only use it with a gas mask, and outdoors.

Suggest caution with anything with silicone.
And HOW!
Fact of chemical life: fluorocarbon DWR is totally INCOMPATIBLE with silicone – and vice versa. Do Not Mix Them!

I haven’t had good luck with Granger’s it could have been because my WPB was too far gone. Jacket manufacturer did confirm this on one of the items. Anyway I switched to nikwax just in case. Seems to work well.

OP was about a down treatment. Aside from Nikwax, everything else I’ve seen is just for cleaning.

I have used the Nikwax down proof in the past, I’ve no evidence either way of how effective it is though their products certainly work on the Paramo clothing I have.

Eric, don’t know if anyone other than Nikwax make such. But, personally, I would not use a PFC-type treatment if it were available. Like sleeping in a cloud of chemicals.

ive no idea if their downproof product works, but I have a Nikwax factory-treated down quilt (TR Vesper) and it seems to work. However, there are reports of clumping with Nikwax down. I’ve not seen that, but unless I was sure the aftermarket downproof a) works and b) doesn’t clump the down, id be Leary.
