I came across this one in Banff National Park! Probably the biggest (and closest!) bear I’ve ever encountered. Decided to include him in my print photography gallery :]
Sep 1, 2017 at 7:09 pm #3488447I live in an area with both grizzlies and black bears. Which I thought most of Banff was as well. It’s rare to see a black bear out in the open like that, even though we have 10X as many black bears as grizzlies.
When I get to places with no salmon streams and only black bears, then I see far more black bears out in the open like that.

David- I was surprised to come across this one. She was lumbering around and then wandered back into the trees but not before I got a few snaps :]

Sep 6, 2017 at 10:33 am #3489347is he shaking off water? Like a dog?
That looks awfully close. Unless you had a high power lens.
Sep 6, 2017 at 11:32 am #3489359200mm and cropped a little. About 50 yards maybe? It was a while ago.
We baited him closer with PBJ sandwiches.
JOKING!
Amy took this picture from the safety of our car.

Banff is such a special place. We’ve been there a few times and are overdue for another visit. While I enjoy Yellowstone, I prefer Banff due to the variety and abundance of wildlife. We tend to see equal numbers of black and grizzly bears every time we visit.
Anywho, nice shot of the bear. Hope you had a great trip.
