My Be Free filter clogged. Couldn’t unclog it. Flow was reduced to drips.
Was able to extend its life on a recent backpack where we were in a base camp for several days. I hung it and let it drip. Got about 90 drips per minute which amounts to about a quart of clean water per hour.
Why did I do this? Water in this area clogs most filters. Using the drip-only filter allowed me to save my new Be Free filter for another trip. Also allowed me to save fuel that would otherwise be required for boiling water to purify it.
I enjoyed this experiment. It slowed me down and relaxed me. Also reminded me to appreciate clean water. Many on this planet would be overjoyed if they could get a clean quart of water every hour.
I’m also less worried about my filter failing on a trip. It might slow me down but it probably won’t end my trip……..as long as it can drip. New motto. “If it can drip….continue the trip.”
