Hey guys,

I’ve been testing out this organic soap called basic H2.   Any one use this on the trail?  So far it seems much more effective for washing clothes in cold water vs campsuds or sea to summit.  Also no residue like Dr Bronners.  However on the bottle describes it as a household de-greaser.  No mention of any of the typical backpacker uses (laundry, dishes, bathing, etc).    Any reason I should not use this for cleaning my clothes and nalgene on the trail?    Online I’ve found people using it as a spot treatment…would it do any harm to wash all my clothes with it?  (fabric degradation or something?)

The one obvious caveat I’ve found is that it does appear to dry out my hands…which combined with the dry Sierras could be a problem.

it worked great for daily laundry (socks & underwear, wool & synthetic) for two weeks on the PCT last July.  The two people who told me about it have used it for several years.

The directions on their website do mention using it for laundry, so I don’t think that’s a problem.

The same company also makes a hand wash concentrate that (they claim) includes moisturizing ingredients, if you don’t like the dry hands.

P.S.- I still can’t put more than one hotlink in a post.
